After Your Move, Moving Tips
Just because you're moving away to school in a few weeks doesn't mean you need to end your friendships. These
goodbyes will only be temporary because there are plenty of ways to keep in touch after
moving to university housing.
1. Get social
This is the twenty-first century, guys! We have computers and phones and something called
social media. Almost everyone has a smartphone basically attached to their hand, so you can be in constant contact with your friends, even from across the country or the world. (Nuts, I know.) Connect with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. Of course, you don't need to use all of these social media tools, but they're the best way to stay in the loop even when you're not in direct
communication with friends from home. Social media can be a passive form of communicating with loved ones.
2. Get talkingThose smartphone things attached to our hands do plenty of things, but did you know they can make something called
phone calls, too? It's nice to hear your friends' voices sometimes, so phone calls can serve as a closer form of communication than social media. Texting is good for catching up about small developments in your lives, but if you want something closer to a face-to-face meetup, then you should try using video chat. With a computer or smartphone, you can see your friends live and in-person (kind of) using tools like Skype, FaceTime and Google Hangouts.
3. Get togetherIf you get tired of video chat and phone calls, then you can plan an actual in-person get-together. Chances are, you'll be home for a weekend or a holiday and so will your friends. During these breaks in the semester, you can schedule parties or lunch dates with your group. You can even organize a reunion of some sort when everyone's home from school. Also, you can coordinate schedules during the semester to visit your friends' schools for a weekend at a time. Exploring other universities' campuses can be a great experience--and be sure to invite everyone to your school, too!
