If you're looking for family fun this winter, we may have just the thing. With a few items you probably have around the house and a little bit of creativity, you can make some of your favourite classic board games! These DIY projects can get the whole family together, so you can enjoy making the games AND playing them.
1. Guess WhoUse photos of twenty-five of your closest friends and family members to populate the boards. Print out three copies of each photo (one per board and one for the card) and cut them into squares. Attach them to sturdy material that you can affix to a plywood board with a hinge. Drill holes into the base board for the hinges, and you have yourself a
homemade game of Guess Who!
2. Monopoly
Monopoly can be a hassle to set up and play. For a game that takes so long to play, you want to keep it interesting.
Use this customizable template to create your own version of the game, taking the family fun to another level. For just $2, you can create your own Monopoly game, print it out and attach it to a board.
3. CheckersBuild your own Checkers game using a board and milk jug lids. You can paint the board to resemble an actual Checkers board, and you can find different coloured lids for the two sides. Feel free to decorate the tops of the lids to create whatever theme you'd like!
4. Tic-Tac-ToeUsing a small chalkboard or whiteboard as the playing board, you can draw the Tic-Tac-Toe board using chalk or marker. Then, find eight rocks and let your kids paint them like their favourite cartoon characters. This could keep your children busy for hours!
