Interior decor trends come and go. Unlike fashion, these fads last for a couple years before appearing outdated. As the season warms up, brighten up your home as well. We could use a little rejuvenation -- especially in the current social/political climate. Leave the stress and outdated furnishings in 2016!
We accumulated a list of five decorating no-nos to keep you fresh and current in the upcoming year.
- Brass: In hardware and accents, stay away from brass! Interior designers suggest that if you like the look, try mixing metals with similar finishes to convey a unique look. Too much brass appears cheap and unsophisticated.
- Moroccan poufs: We’ve seen the floor cushions everywhere, and frankly, we’re tired of them. Need an alternative? What about a Turkish kilim floor pillow? They are just as romantic -- but with a different spin.
- Concrete floors: The cold hard concrete floor is thankfully no longer in style. It reminds us too much or college dormitories! Embrace those hardwood floors, or purchase some wood-look tiling to create seamless outdoor/indoor living.
- All white everything: White walls and white floors with white furniture leave us yawning. Use bright colors that pop in 2017 for jaw dropping style and warm freshness. The “must-have” colors for this year are dusky blue, blue-green, sunshine yellow, mineral grey, and earthy green.
- Whirlpool bathtubs: No one desires the hot tub style amenity any more. It went out of fashion in the ‘80s, because it wastes between 80-100 gallons of water. Try swapping it with a large shower – complete with bench seat, shelving, and a rainwater showerhead.
