Located in east-central Canada, Ontario is Canada's most-populous province, containing nearly 40 percent of all Canadians, and borders five states in the U.S. (Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York).

It is also the home to the nation's capital: Ottawa, and its most-populous city: Toronto, and boasts 250,000 fresh water lakes.

Generally divided into two areas -- Northern and Southern Ontario -- North Ontario is less populated to due to its extremely cold winters and heavily forested land while South Ontario contains 94 percent of the province's population and most arable land.

Ontario is most known for being the home to Niagara Falls: three collective waterfalls that stretch between Canada and the United States in Niagara Falls, Ontario and Niagara Falls, New York. Horsehoe Falls (which lies largely in Canada) is the most powerful waterfall in North America.
