According to information gathered by Statistics Canada (via the
Huffington Post), more and more residents have been moving out of Canada's major cities of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
Toronto lost the most citizens, with 225,000 more people leaving than moving in and Ontario as a whole lost 84,000 residents to other parts of Canada -- half of whom vacated Toronto.
Montreal and Vancouver suffered similar losses, losing 141,000 and 21,000 residents respectively.
Conversely, Ottawa-Gatineau, Calgary and Edmonton are metropolitan areas that all experienced gains. While Ottawa-Gatineau gained 35,000 citizens, Calgary (92,000) and Edmonton (105,000) had even more residents moving in.
While internal migration (those within the same province and from province to province) is down, international migration is up in all metropolitan areas.
