No matter how amazing your home is and how easy it should be to sell it, the real estate market is tricky and competitive. Sometimes, you need to get creative to make your house the most desirable one out there. Daring homeowners and real estate agents have tried these off-beat ways to
put houses on the market and they swear they work!
Have an over-the-top open house
Simply opening your house to the public and offering a few refreshments is not always enough. More elaborate parties are popping up in luxury homes to show off the property. We're talking live entertainment, catering, and a crazy theme with mermaids swimming in your pool and your own hashtag. The event might not bring in the potential buyers, but it's through the people who show up that you'll find them.
Offer a cash incentive
Social media is the most popular tool to share news about your life, so why not share that you're selling your house? Then your friends can share and soon your reach will grow significantly. You can even offer a cash prize for the "share" that leads you to the buyer. It'll get your friends involved and can even spark a little friendly competition.
Film your own reality show
People love to see how other people live. Set up your own YouTube channel and film yourself inside your home. You could do it MTV
Crib-style and show off the contents of your refrigerator, or make a whole series parodying
Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Live-streaming adds another element that lets people see the inside of your home without ever leaving theirs.
Bring in some celebrity guests
If your home has ever had a celebrity guest stay there, or was featured no matter how briefly in a movie or TV show, use that to your advantage. Weird trivia facts like these are what make your home special. If you don't have any cool stories of fame, hire actors to transform your house into a scene. Guests at the open house will love mingling with the "characters."
If all else fails, use magic
There are superstitions about everything from seven years of bad luck to selling your home. One Catholic tradition is to
bury a St. Joseph statue upside down to expedite selling your property. But make sure it's buried in the right place, the backyard, near a flowerbed or other natural growth works best, and hey, it can't hurt right?
