Facebook Creator Upsets Avril Lavigne

Zuckerberg Angers Pop Punk PrincessMark Zuckerberg, most famous for creating Facebook, is a visionary. Still riding on the success of the social media platform, he brought affordable internet access to developing countries (Free Basics). The tech entrepreneur spawned a new word (unfriend), appeared on Saturday Night Live, and won Time's Person of the Year. More recently, however, Zuckerberg entered a different territory -- fatherhood.

Artificial Intelligence

After the birth of his daughter Max in 2015, the new dad released a public letter stating his intention and moral responsibility to create a better world for our children. His present product is Jarvis, an A.I. who controls many systems in his home "including lights, temperature, appliances, music and security, that learns [his] tastes and patterns, that can learn new words and concepts, and that can even entertain" by using "natural language processing, speech recognition, face recognition, and reinforcement learning." Zuckerberg released a fun and silly demonstration of the bot in which it denounces the quality of Nickelback. Critics raved about the potential Jarvis shows.

Hurtful jokes

One Canadian stood her ground and called the programmer out. What's the big deal? Everyone pokes fun at Nickelback, right? Avril Lavigne reacted to Zuckerberg's video roast on Twitter. She defended her estranged husband, Chad Kroeger, by declaring the joke had run its course. Lavigne said the Facebook CEO "may want to consider being more responsible with promoting bullying, especially what's going on in the world today." The couple still collaborates on music, so she might be taking the quip to heart.

Was Jarvis rude, or is Avril Lavigne overly sensitive? Tell us in the comments below!
