Halloween Party Decoration Ideas

It's the Thursday before Halloween! That means the weekend is about to get spooky. If you're having guests over, give your home into a wickedly cool atmosphere amidst the punch sipping and costumes with these easy and creative DIY ideas.

1. Edible Decor

Take any apothecary jar or empty jar you have in your house and fill it with bright coloured candy. Orange, yellow, red, or white often play into the colours of Halloween that will both please your guests (who can help themselves) and please the atmosphere of the room.

2. Garland

A coffee filter garland might not sound like much, but the end result of this paper decoration is simply stunning. By stringing together folded coffee filters, you are able to create both a cute and sophisticated look. Add some fake spiders or pumpkins for more of a Halloween vibe.

3. Specimen Jars

Fill some old jars with plastic decorations such as rats, toy bugs, or doll heads and then fill it with some coloured water. This gives the toys inside the appearance of being preserved as a specimen! Mark each jar with a tag attached to some string to add an extra spooky touch.

4. Terrarium Jars

Old jars sure are coming in handy this Halloween. Use the lid of an old jar and fill it with some dirt, twigs, spiders, and anything else you can think of to give off a haunting look. Then, screw the jar back onto the lid to create the faux terrarium look. Here is some step-by-step instruction from DIY network.

5. Giant Spiderwebs

Cut a spiderweb design from some black garbage bags and hang them on your walls and over windows. This creates a more dramatic and haunting look for some plain walls. It's also cheap, quick, and easy to do!

6. Mini Pumpkins

Have any tangerines or mandarin oranges in your kitchen inventory? Use a sharpie to draw cute jack-o-lantern designs on them and place them around your home or in a bowl for your guests. These cute little pumpkins will definitely bring a smile to your guests' faces.

7. Floating Witch Hats

Give your front porch a haunting feeling with glowing witch hats! All you need are some inexpensive witch hats, fishing line, LED light sticks/tea lights/glow sticks, safety pins, and outdoor command hooks. Because these lights look like they are floating at night, string these luminous witch hats around your entryway for your guests to have a wicked entrance.

8. Spooky Cakes

You can never go wrong with decorating baked goods with a scary theme. All you really need is a store bought cake and some extra at-home items. For one, you could make a haunting "Help Me!" Cake, or a cute Spider Cake for your guests.

9. Spooky Drinks

Provide a blood-red or bright green drink for your guests to give the impression that you are serving either a bloody concoction or a witch's brew! Adding this extra touch to your serving table doubles as a decoration and a party favor. You could also use a hallowed out pumpkin as a punch bowl for your drinks!

Here are a few other ideas that require a little more time and effort, but still would add a nice touch to your Halloween-ready home.
  1. Melting candles
  2. Eyeball cake pops
  3. Halloween lanterns
  4. Halloween stencil ideas
