We all have
THAT drawer. You know exactly what drawer I’m talking about. Spare batteries, scissors, random change, and pieces of string all get thrown in there. It’s the drawer of misfit things. But it’s hard to find a place for everything, so that’s how the junk drawer was born. Even though it’s a drawer of random things, you can still organize it. Here are some tips on how to organize your
junk drawer.
Dump it out
Put some newspaper down and dump that whole drawer out. Then, go through it and see what you can get rid of. Are there glue sticks that are all dried up? Or, did you throw coupons in there and now they are expired? Just get rid of any garbage. The less stuff in the drawer, the easier it will be to
organize.
Sort into piles
Now it’s time to sort items. Maybe some items in the drawer actually have a place but simply aren’t there. You can put any screws in your
tool kit. Tweezers can go in a makeup bag or in a medicine cabinet. Once you put objects that have a proper home, sort the remaining items into piles. You can put all the buttons in one pile, and pencils and pens in another, etc.
Organize
After you sort it into piles, you purchase an organizing tray or even just little boxes to put like items. Arrange the containers so they fit into your drawer properly. You can even decorate your junk drawer by placing contact paper on the bottom. Once you organize it, just to keep it organize for as long as you can. Even if it gets messed up again, just refer back to this blog and follow the steps again!
