New Prime Minister Trudeau Not Moving to 24 Sussex Drive

via Alasdair McLellanThe official residence of Canada's leader is 24 Sussex Drive, in Ottawa, Ontario. The country's Prime Minister-designate, Justin Trudeau, will not be moving there, however. At least not right away.

The PM-elect spent a portion of his childhood living at 24 Sussex, when his father Pierre held office as Prime Minister. But with the current condition of the residence, Trudeau is making decisions about what types of renovations need to be made before his family moves in. The 34-room house has an asbestos problem, along with a "deficient plumbing system" and lack of central A/C. On top of those issues, 24 Sussex Drive is in need of new insulation, as well as updated windows and a new electrical system. According to Huffington Post Canada, the potential cost of the renovations are estimated between $10 million and $150 million, depending on which fixes Trudeau and the National Capital Commission decide to make.

Instead of moving into the usual residence of the Canadian Prime Minister, Trudeau, his wife and their three children will be relocating to a 22-room house across the street from 24 Sussex Drive. The residence is called Rideau Cottage, located on the Rideau Hall grounds. Canada's governor general, the country's head of state, currently resides in a house on the property. The move to Rideau Cottage is only temporary, with the 24 Sussex renovations expected to take somewhere between twelve and fifteen months.

If Mr. Trudeau and his family need any moving help, we'd be happy to take care of the relocation!
