Tree houses have existed since the 1500s when they became a must-have in Florentine gardens. In fact, the oldest tree house is located in Pitchford, England in a 500-year-old lime tree.
As a kid, you may remember hanging out in a friend's tree house, just talking over a plate of spaghetti that a waiter brought to you on a zip line... No?
Some of these incredible tree houses aren't just tree houses; they are fully functioning restaurants, or B&Bs, or even hotels!
- In Issaqua, Washington (just outside of Seattle), resides Tree House Point, a bed and breakfast with six rooms available for rent.
- In Queensland, Australia, lies a luxury resort in the jungle called Silky Oaks Lodge. The lodge contains an impressive restaurant overlooking the Mossman Gorge River.
- Aukland, New Zealand is home to The Yellow Tree House Restaurant that only hosts special events. The restaurant resides in a 131 foot tree.
- Costa Rica is home to a tree house community called Finca Bellavista. If you are looking to relocate to this beautiful location, there is an option to build your own tree house with a parcel or crash in one of the existing houses. Think it'll be difficult to get around? The community comes with a zip line that allows you to glide from house to house... Pretty cool, huh?
- Harads, Sweden is home to six tree house rooms that have their own original themes such as the Mirrorcube, which is nearly invisible!
- Located near a Buddhist theme park, Nanshan Tree House Resort is on the Island of Hainan in the South China Sea. The resort features only three tree houses; each tree house can hold up to 20 people.
- Looking for a cool location to sit and have tea with a friend? The Teahouse Tetsu does exactly that. The tree house sits among beautiful cherry blossoms in Hokuto City, Japan.
- Koh Kood, Thailand is home to one of the most unique tree houses in the world. The Soneva Kiri Resort offers "treepod" dining which allows you to dine in the canopy where your food is served by a waiter on a zip line!
- 4Treehouse is located right in Lake Muskoka, Ontario. The designer, Lukasz Kos, designed the tree house to minimize its impact on surrounding trees. The tree house is three levels and looks like a Japanese lantern at night.
