Visit Popular Canadian Filming Locations

Through the magic of editing and set design, no matter where a movie takes place, it can be filmed anywhere in the world. Many Hollywood blockbusters are filmed right here in Canada, so we've rounded up some of the most popular locations that you can actually visit in real life. On your next vacation you could be walking in the footsteps of Professor Xavier, or figuring out if two people could really have fit on that door.

Hatley Castle, Victoria, British Columbia

Hatley Castle was used as the exterior of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in the X-Men franchise. It was first shown in the 1996 made-for-TV movie Generation X, and was then adopted by the blockbuster series in the early 2000s.  Located in Victoria, the castle is a national historic site that is open to visitors, so you too can discover your mutant abilities.

Harbourfront, Halifax, Nova Scotia

One of the top grossing films ever, raking in $2.1 billion, Titanic's ocean scenes were filmed primarily near Halifax, which makes sense because it is the closest port to where the real Titanic struck the infamous iceberg in 1912. While you're there, visit the Maritime Museum and take a Titanic tour to see one of the world's biggest collections of artifacts from the shipwreck.

Sherway Gardens, Toronto, Ontario

Although it was supposedly set in Evanston, Illinois, Mean Girls, the ultimate teen comedy of 2004, was filmed all over Toronto. The schools are harder to go inside to be personally victimized by Regina George, but visit the Sherway Gardens mall to pick out a perfect pink outfit to wear on Wednesday.

Notre Dame des Victoires, Quebec City

The final arrest of Frank Abignale Jr. in Catch Me If You Can was on the street in front of this historic monument. It acted as a stand in for a church with the same name in Paris, France, where this part of the movie is located. Because of its French look and feel, Hollywood often uses Quebec City as a cheaper and closer France.

Canada Olympic Park, Calgary, Alberta

The Jamaican bobsled team that against all odds, competed at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, was the inspiration for the 1993 film Cool Runnings. It was primarily filmed in the real Olympic Village, on the same bobsled track that the team used. The actual reproduction sled used in the movie is on display nearby at Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.
