It’s that time of year were the next important step in life occurs – college. Although college can be typically overwhelming and nerve-wracking, college is a new way to exploring adulthood on your own. You either have two options when it comes to exploring your college’s fullest potential – being a commuter, or a resident-on-campus. Moving out of your home could be a pretty stressful task, however I’m here to provide you with the necessities of what to bring to your future dorm.
Sleeping
When it comes to sleeping arrangements most dorms are usually supplied with barebone bed frames and mattresses. Most mattresses are thin in size and don’t supply any comfort at all. Before moving into your dorm invest in a memory foam pad. Most memory foam pads are inexpensive, and drastically improve your mattress.
Working
College is not all about parties, and doing a night on the town. You’ll be spending around 60-70% of your time at your college library and dorm room. Typically, your dorm provides you with a work desk, and nothing else. You will need some pens, pencils, highlighters, and markers. You will also need file organizers for your drawers to organize your desk work. The essentials needed for your work desk are the following - desk lamp, ethernet chord, and personal laptop.
Bathing
When it comes to using the bathroom to shower, brushing your teeth, most colleges have full bathrooms for the floor. When you become a sophomore, junior, or senior you will be given your own bathroom and shower. Starting out though it may be a free-for-all as to who gets to shower first, which becomes a nuisance if you’re late to class. You will need a tooth-brush, toothpaste, deodorant, comb, shampoo, and conditioner.
Entertainment
I’m saving the best for last with all you. When it comes to decking out your dorm room to gain some eyes from people walking the halls, it’s all about personal preference. Make sure you divvy up what needs to be brought with your roommate before you go all out at the mall, and retail stores. You will need the following – television, gaming system, movie posters or flags, some groovy lighting for the night-time, and of course a Blu-ray player. These items should come in handy when it comes to making friends.
This Should Prepare You For That Awesome Dorm!
