Common Excuses for Putting Off Packing

Packing may not be the most fun thing in the world, but it is necessary when it comes to the moving process. Even if you are hiring a professional moving company to perform your relocation, you will most likely be packing yourself. Here are some common excuses you might come up with to delay the packing process.

"My back hurts..."

If your back actually hurts, then you should go see a doctor. Chances are, this is just an excuse you're creating so you can justify being lazy. Obviously, you know packing is important and must be done before you move out, but is a fake back injury (or claiming you have bad knees) really the best you can do? Just get started on packing already! Remember: the sooner you begin, the faster it'll all be over.

"I'd rather not get a paper cut..."

While paper cuts are not necessarily painful, they are extremely inconvenient. But is an insignificant injury like this a good excuse? Absolutely not. Just be careful when handling paper and cardboard, and be sure to keep your hands moisturized. If you're really that concerned about paper cuts, you can wear gloves while packing your items away.

"I can donate most of this..."

Donating items that are still in good shape is a wonderful idea. Not only does it lighten your load on moving day--it helps out your local community as well. This is also true for garage sales or yard sales, plus you can make money off of items you'll no longer need. However, if you were planning on holding a garage sale or donating your items, chances are you would've done it by now. And it's not like you can donate everything. You're going to have to pack something sooner or later. Might as well start now.

"I still have plenty of time to pack..."

Famous last words. The packing process is one of the most important stages of moving. Not pacing yourself is a major error--especially if you've hired movers for moving day. You better have everything packed by the time they show up to load the truck! You might keep telling yourself that you have plenty of time before moving day, but the truth is, that day is approaching quickly and you should devote a decent amount of time to the packing process.

"I'll just burn it all and start over..."

While this is an effective strategy, WE DO NOT RECOMMEND SETTING ALL OF YOUR BELONGINGS ABLAZE. But if you are really willing to go to these great lengths to avoid packing, then don't pack. Instead, do yourself a favor and hire professional movers to do it for you. Find a company that offers packing services and let them do the full-service move for you. This way, you can sit back and relax while all of the difficult and tedious moving tasks are taken care of. That's all you've wanted this whole time anyway, right?
