 Sorting your belongings to pack up for a move is no easy feat. It takes days to go through everything to make sure nothing gets left behind. It is a tedious process that seems impossible, but with a few simple steps, you'll stay organized to sort and pack you home in no time.
Make a schedule and stick to it Don't wait until the last minute to start sorting. Plan out the time frame for your move and give yourself plenty of time to get through everything. Do a little bit each day to the workload doesn't pile up and stick to the plan to make moving day much less stressful.
Do a quick sweep of unwanted items The first thing to do is do a quick sweep of each room in your home for unwanted items. Take a trash bag and throw away the garbage, anything broken and other things you will definitely not be taking with you. Don't delve deep into each room, just toss whatever you see that you don't want. Sorting through the rest will be much quicker without the extra clutter.
Start with the least used rooms Leave the kitchen and bedrooms for last. Sort through rooms one-by-one making piles of items to take with you, donate and throw away. Put the piles on different sides of the room to make sure they don't get mixed together. Put items you want to pack together in the same spot so they're easier to find an put into boxes.

Designate a packing room Choose one rarely used room in your home to be your packing room. This is where you'll build boxes in all different sizes so they're ready to grab when you need them. As you're sorting through the other rooms, you can bring items into the packing room and put them directly into boxes. Have a large stash of trash bags on hand for soft, non-breakables. Packing them into trash bags will help save on space by changing shapes in ways boxes can't. |
