Give Your Bathroom a Makeover

In a perfect world, your bathroom would be a relaxing oasis where you can enjoy soaks in a grand tub after a long day of moving. In reality, your bathroom might be dark, depressing and dated. If you're looking to give your bathroom a much-needed makeover, here are some tips to get you started.

Ditch the mix-matched towels

If you're a renter, you might not be able to paint the walls or change the dated fixtures of your bathroom. If you're a homeowner, a bathroom renovation might be on the list, but not in your immediate budget. Your towels, shower curtain and other accessories are the items that add colour to your bathroom and can make a big difference without breaking the bank.

Switching out your mix-matched, ratty, old towels that have seen better days, for a matching set with a coordinating shower curtain can add the colour you're looking for in your bathroom without spending a tonne of cash.

Paint the walls

Because your bathrooms is one of the smaller rooms in your home, painting the walls won't take an entire week to get done. If the bathroom walls look like they belong on a page out of a 1960s home decor magazine (hello pink and avocado green!) then paint them a shade that's more to your liking--or at least something more neutral. To cover pink and/or green walls, don't skimp on the primer!

Change fixtures

If you love your sink but hate the faucet -- change it. The fixtures on your bathroom sink, shower, and even your toilet can be changed easily. Maybe you're tired of the shiny silver sink handles showing water spots all the time, or maybe you want to install customized shower knobs that came straight from France. Whatever your taste, you can change those features in your bathroom to match your overall aesthetic.

Did you know you can spray paint your sink fixtures and handles? For the price of a can of spray paint you can update the look of your sink in an afternoon.

Organize everything

Organization will be important in your newly updated bathroom. You don't want your medicine cabinet to be overflowing with junk, do you? Use baskets to hold extra towels, toilet paper rolls, and beauty products throughout your bathroom to give it the spa-like look you need to relax.
