Party readyWhen you’re preparing to move into a new home, there’s a lot of prep work--the moving process is stressful. The best way to de-stress is to host a party! While hosting a party can get stressful as well, these tips will help you plan one with minimal aggravation so you can relax and enjoy yourself. You deserve it.!

Cleaning up

Your house doesn’t need to be spotless--don’t worry about dusting every nook and cranny and scrubbing the carpet or floors. Your friends and family will understand since you just moved in. Here are some quick and easy tips for cleaning up.
  • Focus on cleaning the rooms that will be in use. This means to make sure the kitchen, bathrooms and living room look great and don’t worry so much about the office and bedroom.
  • Clear clutter. Eliminate clutter on tables and desks to make your home look organized.
  • Clean the bathroom. Make sure to wipe any dirty areas and have toilet paper, clean towels, and hand soap stocked.
  • Dump any trash. Go through your house and empty the trash receptacles to the outdoor garbage. This will eliminate any smells and make your home look fresh.

Entertainment

You don’t want your guests to be bored at your party, so it’s a good idea to set up entertainment ahead of time. Make sure to have some music playing in the background, but not so loud that your guests can’t hear each other speak. You could also get some games, such as fun card games or board games for an older crowd.

Food and drink

It’s not a party if there isn’t food and drinks. You can either prepare all the food yourself if you enjoy playing host, or have a potluck and have everyone drink a dish. Offer a variety of drinks, such as a signature cocktail, beer and wine. You should also have soda, water, and juice on hand for those who don’t drink alcohol. You could also make it BYOB and have everyone bring their favorite drink.

Supplies

To save yourself from a lot of clean up later on, you can purchase paper plates and plastic utensils. There are a variety of paper plates with beautiful designs so you can choose one to match the theme. Also, make sure to have plenty of napkins and paper towels for any messes.

Decoration

Since you just moved in, you don’t really have to worry about decorations too much. Some simple décor tips include a beautiful centerpiece for the dining room table and colorful napkins. Depending on the season, you can use that as a theme. For spring, have spring flowers throughout your home. For autumn, you can put little pumpkins. Summer can have plants with colors that range from different shades of yellow. And for winter, you can do snowflakes or focus on blues and whites. Again, since you just moved in, you don’t have to stress so much about the decorations. Your guests will just be happy to see and spend time with you in your new home.

Now that you have all the aspects of the party planned out, it’s time to finally enjoy your new home and your friends and family.
