Keeping your belongings neatly organized and properly stored in a small space can be challenging. If you're having trouble coming up with ways to eliminate clutter and keep your apartment neatly organized and tidy, check out these helpful tips!

Utilize any dead space

The easiest way to increase storage in your small apartment is to let no empty space go unused! Keep out of season clothing in storage bins beneath your bed, or stow items in decorative baskets on top of your kitchen cabinets. You'll be surprised at how much you can increase your organization by just being creative with the way you use your space.

Buy multi-functional furniture

Many pieces of furniture can double as storage, which will make it much easier to stay organized. You can purchase a hollow ottoman, a coffee table with drawers, or a bed with headboard shelving to provide more storage opportunities in your apartment.

Minimize clutter

While minimizing clutter is the whole purpose of staying organized, there are many easy ways to prevent clutter from occurring in the first place. Having a designated place for everything and always putting items away after use is the most effective way to keep clutter from accumulating.

Build wall storage

If you live in tight quarters and are running out space to store things, look upwards! Floor to ceiling space is often overlooked when considering storage options. You can build shelving to store books, clothing, toiletry items, towels, shoes, kitchen spices, and just about anything else!

Hang wall hooks

Another way to effectively utilize vertical space is to mount hooks on your walls. Hang towels and robes in your bathroom; jewelry, scarves and hats in your bedroom; and pots, pans and cookware in your kitchen.

Get creative with the closet

If you lack dresser and closet space, clothing storage can be difficult. Luckily, there are many ways to increase your closet's efficiency!
  • Hang compartmentalized clothing storage. These canvas shelves hang from your closet rod, which allows you to hang folded clothes, increasing your closet capacity exponentially!
  • Install an extra rod. You can purchase this apparatus for your closet to create extra clothing storage. The additional rod hangs from your original one, halfway down the length of your closet. This enables you to store double the clothes in the same space!
  • Use plastic drawers. If you have space on your closet floor, a set of plastic drawers can be used to store folded clothes, underwear, accessories, and a variety of other items.
