As others stated, have to think any good reviews on this company are planted by the company. Their rating with the BBB is F, wish I'd discovered that earlier but I couldn't even get an address for this company until it was too late and my initial searches on the BBB didn't find them. Another issue is they seem to operate under more than one name, they wanted payment to them done by money order in the name of Across Canada Van Lines Inc. We have previously moved cross country without any problems but this was a mess from start to finish. We couldn't get them to send us a contract to review despite multiple requests and received nothing in writing until after they had loaded our goods on their truck. Beyond not being willing to give us a pick up time until the day before our move, they actually decided they were picking up our stuff a day ahead of schedule and we either had to accept that on 1 hour's notice or I guess end up stranded. They also rescheduled our delivery date and time 3 or more times. I never received any sort of proof as to the weight of our goods, upon which the cost of the move is based, and based on the weight of our goods during our prior cross country move, which we had drastically downsized by selling a lot of our furniture and belongings prior to this move, I'm quite sure the weight they sited was inflated. Regardless, we accepted all of these issues without complaint. What finally upset us was the condition of our belongings when they arrived. Almost every item of furniture had some sort of damage, some of it quite severe. We had leather furniture with multiple scuffs, scratches and slits. An expensive china cabinet not only had multiple gouges and chunks of wood scraped off in various areas, there was actually a hole punched in the top. Multiple pieces of expensive wrought iron furniture, including our master bed, a kitchen table with 4 chairs and various occasional tables had scrapes and chunks of finish gouged right down to the metal. A number of boxes had severe damage, including boxes that had been ripped open, severely punctured, severely compressed and stuff spilled all over them. Many of these compromised boxes contained items that had been broken. Any pictures we had were first bubble wrapped, then wrapped again with multiple layers of paper then packed in specialty picture boxes padded all around with additional paper. Despite that, they severely punctured (almost looks like with a forklift) a box clearly marked as Extremely Fragile containing our most valuable picture, a large limited edition print costing more than $1,700, wrecking the frame and breaking the glass. As per their request, I submitted to them a 9 page report with 22 grouped entries including pictures detailing our damages and showing the state of the boxes. I have an estimate of around $1,000 to repair our leather furniture (9 damaged areas on 4 pieces), the picture will easily cost more than $500 |
