diy projects for the bedroomYou spend roughly eight hours per day asleep. That's 56 hours of sleeping per week. Needless to say, you spend a lot of time in your bedroom - so you want your room to look nice!

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to decorate your bedroom. You also don’t need an art degree to make Do-It-Yourself projects. Here’s a list of easy DIY projects to decorate your bedroom.

Clothespin frame

A great wall piece, and an easy way to showcase your photographs is making a clothespin frame. It’s very simply to make. First, get a piece of cardboard and cut out a large circle. Then, cut another circle in the circle you just made (it should look like a doughnut). Then, gather your clothespins. Attach the clothespins to the outer edge of your “doughnut.” You’ll want to attach the side of the clothespin that you pick to your cardboard circle. Place clothespins all the way around, then trim your inner circle to be as close to the clothespins as you can. After it’s done drying, just hang it up and place your pictures in the clothespin. You can paint the cardboard or use washi tape to decorate it to match your bedroom. This is an inexpensive way to display your photos.

Wall art

This art piece is so easy, you don’t have to worry if you don’t consider yourself artistic. You’ll need a canvas, masking tape, and paint. First, use the tape to create your design on the canvas. You can make a checkerboard design, a chevron design, or whatever design you'd like. Now is the fun part - painting! You can layer whatever colors you want. You can use different brushes or even a sponge to create fun textures! Make sure to let it dry completely, which should take an hour or so. Then remove the tape and your masterpiece is finished!

Chalkboard door

A fun way to decorate your bedroom is to paint the door with chalkboard paint. Chalkboard paint is very affordable and will add a unique touch to your bedroom. Just paint a few layers and wait for it to dry. After it dries, cover the entire door in chalk, and then wipe it off. This will seal the chalkboard and ensure that whatever is written or drawn on can be completely erased. You can write to-dos, things to remember, or just little notes on your door now. Chalkboard paint also comes in a variety of colors, so it can still match your bedroom.

Fruit crate shelves

If you go to your local craft store, they usually have fruit crates. These crates are just wooden boxes that are lightweight, but a decent size. You can attach them with brackets and screws. Stack them horizontally so it won’t be too tall. The bottom of the boxes will become the back of the shelves. After you attach them, the next step is to paint them! You can paint them whatever color you want. If you don’t want to stack them vertically, stack them in a 2x2 formation. You can put books, makeup, and any other knick knacks that you want in the shelves.

Bleach pillowcase

A super simple way to spice up your pillows is to make bleach pillowcases. You can purchase a bleach pen for just a few dollars. Find two pillowcases that you want to bleach. They can be any color and can even have an existing design. First, place a piece of cardboard or wax paper inside the pillowcase so it doesn’t bleed to the other side. Tape down the corners of the pillowcases so it doesn’t move. (If you want, you can first draw your design with chalk and then trace it over with the bleach pen.) The saying, “less is more” goes for the bleach pen. Go over your design lightly with the pen. Let it set until you’re happy with how light it is. Then, rinse off the excess bleach and put the pillowcases in the washing machine. Wash them in a cold cycle with some detergent and let it dry. Then, stuff them with pillows! Now you have uniquely designed pillowcases that will give your room a personalized flair.
