Give Your Kids Room a Makeover

Your kids are growing up, and it's time to get rid of the baby wallpaper and give them bedrooms that reflect who they are. Make your child's room into a sanctuary, where he or she will want to hang out with friends, or retreat after a bad day.

Give the room a fresh coat of paint.

Some kids have the same favourite colour forever while others are ever changing. Let your child pick out the paint colour for his or her room. Even if you don't think he or she will like it in a few years, it will make the room special. You can incorporate the colour however you want. If you feel comfortable painting the whole room, go for it. If he or she chooses a colour that you don't like, try to compromise with a different shade, or just paint an accent wall so the colour doesn't overpower the space.

Rearrange the furniture.

Sometimes the simplest changes can make all the difference. If you already have perfectly good furniture, don't worry about buying something new. Just move it around a little and the room will have a totally different feel. Figure out an arrangement that is different, but still functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Add wall decals.

Whether it's dinosaurs or princesses, or both, add some decoration to the walls that reflect your children.  By using decals instead of paint, you can easily change the art as your kids grow up. You can even have them stick some decals on themselves. They might come out a little crooked, but they'll be personal, and fun to look back on when they're older.

Use toys as decoration.

Toys don't always have to live in a box or a crate. Pick some of your child's nicest and favourite toys to keep out on a shelf or on top of a dresser. They'll be easily accessible for your child to use and he or she will be more likely to put the toys back after playing.

Paint a chalkboard.

What kids don't want to draw on the walls? Give your kids a creative outlet without making a huge mess. Paint a whole wall or parts of a wall with chalkboard paint. You can even leave notes and lists of chores for your kids on the wall, which automatically makes them seem more fun. Then when you want to get rid of the chalkboard, just paint over it.
