Canada is Among Top Places to Move for Tech Professionals

The United States, Canada and Australia were at the top of the list of most attractive places to move to, according to a study by recruiting company Dice. 

The study found that about 72 percent of tech professionals in the U.K. would consider moving abroad for work if the right job came up. France, Germany, New Zealand and Spain rounded out the list. 

Dice Marketing Director, Jamie Bowler, said, "Tech professionals fully recognize the highly transferable nature of their skills."

"As a result, tech professionals are often more open than other professionals to the concept of moving - whether to improve their career or their lifestyle," he added. 

The study also found that the biggest factor for sending tech work abroad was the quality of life. A better work-life balance ranked higher than financial incentives, the recruiting company said. 

Moving for work

Are you planning to move for work? You can deduct some of your moving expenses on your taxes! The general rule of thumb is if you've moved 40 kilmoetres closer to a new job than your old location - even if it's for seasonal work or to start a business within Canada - you're eligible to receive money back on your tax return for the expenses you amassed while moving.

If you're only planning a temporary move for work use some of these tips:

• Find out what will/can be provided for you in your temporary home (if one is being provided for you). This will minimize the amount of items you'll need to pack. 
• Don't forget about your mail! If it's only for a few weeks or a month or two, you can likely have friends or family pick up your mail for you while you're away. If it's longer than a month or two, be sure to forward your mail or purchase a PO Box near your new home.

Get out there and explore your new home, it's only for a short while so enjoy it while you can! Maybe it will convince you to make the move permanent.
