Just as clothing styles and fashion changes every year, so do
home decor options. Just look at those
60's trends that have gotten very outdated or "vintage." Modern decor reflects the current times, but what does that mean for 2017? Trend spotters are saying that a look of ease and comfort is coming into style. Even at the luxury end of the spectrum, the look is a less stiff more velvety and smooth feel.
Ephemeral colors
Delicate hues evoke airiness and light. Looking at the palette makes you think of Sunday morning. Soft whites and chalky pastels that have been gaining in popularity over the last few years are paired with darker but soothing neutrals like marine, earth, moss, and heather. Textures are softer and woods are low luster. It's a kind of look you can fall into and relax. Yellows are popping up more, from pale butter to dark mustard. Animal prints are also incorporated in neutral colors like beige and gray instead of their traditional tones.
The look of luxury
For the new "visually expressive" generation, jewel tones, lustrous leathers and hefty color metals are particularly appealing. Shiny brass and copper are growing more popular, but in 2017, we'll embrace the beauty of aged metals in furniture, hardware and fixtures. You'll also start to see an Art Deco influence and the simplicity of Danish, Italian and French modernism.
Bringing the outdoors inside
The relaxing and refreshing trend incorporates green with an emphasis on natural, organic silhouettes and sustainable materials. Citrus trees are often thrown in the mix, wallpapers with lemon branches and botanical sketches of orange trees. To complement the trend, kiwi, citron and chartreuse colors are set to hit stores this year. Not to mention that Greenery is the Pantone color of the year. Sky blues and florals are must haves this
spring, on everything from lampshades to lounge chairs.
The new look of global
It's not limited to one single country. It's a mixed bag, almost indefinable -- neo-global or geo-hybrid. It is an eclecticism created by personal and online travels. It is a collected and curated look that is comforting to homebodies looking to refresh their homes for the new year.
