How to Get Your Home Ready for Spring

Spring is almost here! After holing up inside to hide from the cold for months, it's time to get your home ready for the warm weather! Check our helpful tips to gear your home up for the spring season.

Get ready for landscaping

Looking forward to a beautiful lawn this summer? Start your landscaping planning now! What kind of shrubs, rocks and plants were you considering? Start making a list of what you'll need, map out areas that need planting and plan how you will arrange everything. Clear away the debris and branches that have collected over the winter, and power-wash your deck, patio, and any other surfaces in your yard to eliminate dirt and grime. Clean out your flower beds and garden areas to prepare them for planting, and replace old hoses, sprinklers, and any other landscaping tools needed for your outdoor maintenance regimen. Get started pruning, weeding, and fertilizing so your greenery is vibrant when temperatures get warmer in the approaching months!

Break out the patio furniture
If your patio table, chairs, and umbrella are stowed away in your shed, garage, or basement, it’s time to get them out and clean them thoroughly for the season. Make sure they are still in good condition--rust, wood rot, or rips and stains on your umbrella justify a new purchase to keep your yard looking beautiful.

Get started on spring cleaning
Did your home gather dust over the winter? Spring is the perfect season to clear out your clutter and give your home a makeover. Heating systems cause dust accumulation, cold weather keeps you from cleaning your windows, and all the sand, salt and dirty snow tracked inside your home leaves your floors and rugs looking dull and dirty. Gather your whole family together to thoroughly dust, wash windows, mop and wax floors, and clean heating/cooling vents and replace their filters. It's also a good idea to leave the windows open for a day to let in fresh air and get rid of musty odours.

Check your interior systems
You should always evaluate your HVAC systems when seasons change to ensure they are well-functioning. Spring is a great time to replace or clean your air filters, and have a technician come to your home to inspect your system in case there are any problems. If you have window A/C units, now is a good time to install them. Remember to clean the filter and check to ensure the unit is working properly. Don’t forget to check your smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and other safety systems to verify they are functioning effectively.
