How to Plan an End of Summer Bash

As the summer starts to wind down, you may want to throw one last shindig before the brisk fall weather begins. Can't think of any fun summer themes for your soiree?  Check out these fun and simple ideas to throw a memorable end of summer bash.

Hawaiian luau

Put out tiki torches, hand out leis, and ask attendees to dress in Hawaii-inspired gear–like grass skirts, tropical shirts, and seashell jewelry. Play island music--like reggae or calypso--and serve traditional Polynesian fare like Kalua pig (Hawaiian pulled pork), poke (Hawaiian sashimi), and fresh pineapple!

Beachy BBQ
Bring the beach to your backyard by setting up tarps covered with sand and lay out blankets or beach chairs for lounging. Tell guests to attend in a bathing suits and nautical attire. Prepare easy-to-eat BBQ fare like burgers and hot dogs that can be enjoyed on your beach blankets. Set up a volleyball net for a friendly game or toss a beach ball around.  Create a playlist with songs from the Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, Bob Marley, and “beach pop” records from the ’50s and ’60s.

Potluck picnic
Short on cash? Ask guests to pitch in for a simple potluck picnic. Ask everyone to bring a summery, easy-to-eat finger food item (such as fried chicken, sandwiches, fruit, cheese, and bread). Lay out the varied spread on picnic blankets and enjoy the smorgasbord right in the grass.

Summer fiesta
Who doesn’t love Mexican food? Prepare delicious and authentic dishes such as quesadillas, fish tacos, and guacamole, and serve homemade margaritas in traditional glasses. Decorate with sombreros and maracas, and hang a pinata for the kids (or the adults). You can even try out your salsa dancing skills with some Spanish music.
