How to Stay Warm During Your Move

via PixabayIt's no secret: Moving during the winter is a daunting task. While you should be able to save on moving costs by moving during the winter season--after all, peak season is during the warmer months--the lower temperatures present a different, more tangible challenge. This task, of course, is not just difficult for your movers. Whether you are an individual or family relocating in the winter time, here are some moving tips to help you stay warm during your move.

Stay updated on weather.

Be sure to use weather broadcasts, your forecast app and tools such as Twitter and Facebook to stay informed on the latest predictions. Prepare accordingly, and communicate with your moving company to make sure moving day is ready to proceed as scheduled. If you need to postpone for whatever reason, make sure you and your movers are on the same page.

Dress appropriately.
Keep your winter clothes separate from your other packed belongings. Make sure your heavy clothing is accessible so you can throw some extra layers on if it gets too cold. Dress comfortably and pack a small kit of personal items to take care of yourself in the low temperatures. Here are some things you can pack:
  • Chapstick
  • Moisturizer
  • Instant hot chocolate packets
  • Hat, gloves, scarf
  • Hand warmers
Prepare your vehicle for winter.
This could mean taking your car for the appropriate servicing or it could mean winterizing your car. Either way, it's a good idea to have your automobile ready for your move prior to moving day. Be sure to have your brakes checked, as well as your fluid levels and oil. You should also check your tire pressure and wipers to prepare for your journey. To be extra careful, try to have some of these items handy just in case something happens while you're on the road:
  • Flashlight
  • Jumper cables
  • Water
  • Shovel and ice scraper
  • Roadside flares
  • Extra blankets
In addition to the moving tips above, you should always stay hydrated because you dehydrate more quickly without noticing it in cold weather. So, always have water on-hand, and be sure to eat to keep your energy up. Best of luck, and stay warm during your move!
