Have you recently relocated to a new city? Moving to an unfamiliar area where you don't know anyone can be difficult--especially when it comes to dating! With Valentine's Day right around the corner, follow our helpful tips to snag a date in your new neck of the woods.
Don't fear rejection
The thought of meeting people in a new city is intimidating--you don't know anyone, and you're newly out of your comfort zone. However, every gain requires some risk, and the best way to start dating is to stop worrying about it so much. Allowing the fear of rejection to deter you will crush many opportunities to meet new people and establish romantic connections. Don't be afraid to approach others and strike up a conversation.
Use social mediaIt's easier than ever to connect with others, no matter where in the world you call home. Social media is an excellent tool for meeting people, especially when you are new to a city. You can easily join online dating websites or Facebook groups established for regional newcomers to meet singles. However, remember to be cautious and prudent when meeting strangers online, and always set a public place for your first date.
Be open-mindedYou may have certain criteria for a romantic partner in mind, but it's always a good idea to keep an open mind. While it's important for a potential match to click with you and have qualities you value, sometimes the strongest connections occur when you don't expect it. Experimenting with dating different types of people can be a fun and exciting way to explore your city--if a romantic connection doesn't pan out, maybe you can make a new friend!
Join a clubTo meets others with similar interests, join a club, class or other organization. Sign up for a local gym membership, volunteer at a non-profit, or take a cooking class. If you are introverted, choose an activity that requires more conversation with others so it's easier for you to meet a possible mate.
Go out aloneYou're not going to land many dates sitting on your couch in your sweatpants. Get out there and explore your new city! Visit local bars, coffee shops, bookstores, and restaurants. Visit the same places frequently--you'll find that you're not the only regular at these establishments. Make eye contact, smile and strike up conversations with familiar faces. Most people are so consumed with their smart phones and other gadgets that they hardly notice one another anymore. Being outgoing and friendly is the first step in making a great connection!
