After Your Move
Your first apartment is exciting and new - but it's also a bit pricey when you first move in. Besides the security deposits, rent and other fees you have to pay upfront, you also need to furnish it. Don't forget to add these items to your list of things to buy for your new apartment.
Furniture
You'll need a place to sit, sleep and (possibly) work in your apartment so be sure to add a sofa, tables, bed and chair to your list of items to buy. When you first move in, you might have ideas of entertaining guests with lavish dinner parties for which you'd need multiple chairs -- forget about that. Well, forget about it just for the time being, at least. Now is the time to worry about yourself. YOU need a place to sit and eat. YOU need a place to sleep. Worry about future guests after your immediate needs are met.
AppliancesMany apartments are already furnished with a refrigerator, stove/cooktop and microwave. If they aren't, then those should be your first purchase - mainly the refrigerator and stove. You'll need a place to store your food and cook it. If you don't have a microwave, you can get creative with your stove and oven for heating and reheating food until you buy one.
CookwareStick with the essentials for now. If you're more of a foodie, then splurge on some extras or buy an entire cookware set if you're so inclined.
- Frying pan/skillet
- Pot
- Baking pans/dishes
- Silverware and utensils
- Knives
- Plates
- Glasses
Linens, towels, etc. Now is the chance to upgrade your bed sheets, towels and other fabric items in your home. Go big with a 1,000 thread count sheet set or giant fluffy towels.
