Venture Outside in Autumn

Autumn Hiking in CanadaYou sweat in summer and freeze in winter. Although spring months rank a close second, autumn is the ideal season for devoted hikers and novices alike. Bugs are in check, and beautiful foliage is out. As humidity decreases, so do the crowds.

Where are the best places to trek in Canada?

Fundy Footpath
Visit waterfalls overlooking the shoreline, cross the suspension footbridge, or explore triassic era rock formations. This southern New Brunswick location features 10 kilometres of picturesque coastal wilderness.

Confederation Trail
The winding trail brings you on a tip to tip route through Prince William Island. Established atop an abandoned railroad, the flat trail is perfect for cyclists. Amateurs can leisurely stroll through village shops and wetlands via a gravel path.

Killarney Park
Canadian landscape painters, commonly known as the Group of Seven, petitioned to save Killarney Park in 1964. If you have ten days to spare this October, consider reserving a yurt with friends, and wander the arduous La Cloche Silhouette loop.

Lake Louise
Avid adventurers should try the teahouse challenge in Banff, Alberta. The moderately challenging five-hour circuit hits both the Lake Agnes Tea House and the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House. The quaint refreshment refuges, built by the Canadian Pacific Railway over 92 years ago, fly in all supplies; they have no electricity or running water.

Stanley Environmental Art Project
Find public art amidst Stanley Park’s trails. After storm damage closed the area to tourists in 2006, artists installed semi-permanent works to honour its restoration. Created with all natural materials and no harm to the habitat, each piece signifies a harmonious ecological relationship.
