When the warm weather arrives there's no better place to enjoy it than in your own backyard! If your backyard is in less than stellar shape,
here are some tips to spruce it up a bit before you enjoy the sunshine.
Backyard landscaping
First things first, you should get the landscaping under control. The winter may have created some dead spots in your lawn and your flowerbeds have likely seen better days, so making sure the grass is healthy and your garden is ready to start flourishing should be your first step. Visit your favorite home improvement store and grab some grass seeds and fertilizer and bring your lawn back to life! Now is also a great time to start an edible garden, since you'll be working back there anyway *hint, hint.*
Backyard decorYou might not think about decorating your backyard the same way you would your living room, but it can instantly brighten up a patio or pool area if you have some colourful pillows and accessories. When choosing fabrics for your backyard decor, be sure that they are weatherproof and durable, so that they can withstand the great outdoors.
If buying a new patio set is out of your budget, consider spray painting your old furniture to give it a second life. Be sure to buy spray paint that will work for plastics if your furniture is plastic and the same if it's made of wood, this will ensure that the paint adheres properly and lasts as long as possible. Another tip for budget-friendly furniture is to scour thrift shops! Thrift shop furniture makes a great starting point for DIY projects!
PrivacyOf course when you're lounging by your pool or trying to read on your newly decorated patio, you're going to want some privacy. Consider using tall plants for privacy along the edges of your backyard to keep the neighbours' prying eyes out of your yard. A garden trellis can also make a great privacy wall while still letting in enough sunshine and cool breezes into the yard.
