A global survey ranked Canada sixth worldwide when it came to expats looking for a place to call home,
CTV News reported.
Canada came in sixth overall in the 2015 HSBC Expat Explorer survey, but when it came to tolerance and quality of life, about two-thirds of respondents said it was better than in their home countries.
"Expats rank it as the most welcoming destination worldwide regardless of a person's age, faith, race, gender or sexual orientation," the survey's report stated. Respondents also called Canadian living "exciting" and "never boring."
A U.K. expat explained his reasons for
moving to Canada and told HSBC that "(Living in Canada has been) a liberating experience which has allowed new exciting perspectives and opportunities for my young family. We live in a beautiful and uncluttered environment."
The survey itself is an independent global expat survey according to HSBC's website and uses responses from almost 22,000 expats from more than 100 countries to rank the best places in the world to
move to and work. The survey ranks the countries based on respondents' answers in three categories: experience, family, and economics. The scores are then averaged out for overall rankings.
Overall, Canada was ranked sixth in experience, eighth in family and 11th in economics. Respondents gave Canada positive reviews when it came to integration and quality of life, but only ranked Canada 24th when it came to making friends.
The annual survey is commissioned by HSBC Expat and conducted by an independent research company YouGov.
