Essential Tools for Your Toolbox in Your Home

Essential tools for you toolboxEvery home should have a toolbox. From small repairs to DIY projects, a toolbox is essential to your home. But what should you include in your toolbox? There are so many different types of tools, it can become overwhelming trying to figure out what you need. There are also some tools that you won’t need unless you’re a construction worker. Here at TopMoving.ca, we have created a list of essential tools you should have in your toolbox.

Screwdriver set

Screwdrivers will probably be your most helpful tool. From opening paint cans to putting batteries into toys. Instead of buying individual screwdrivers of different sizes, most stores will sell kits that include a variety of sizes. Make sure to pick a screwdriver set that has a comfortable handle. There are some screwdriver sets that even include a case, which helps keep them organized.

Hammer
The next item you should have in your toolbox is a hammer - specifically, a claw hammer. A claw hammer is great because on one end you hammer nails in, and the other pulls nails out. Generally, a hammer that has a 16-inch handle and weighs roughly one pound is best. Try to find a hammer with a rubber, plastic, or vinyl handle. They absorb shock and have a better grip.

Pliers
Pliers are great for a variety of things. Your toolbox should include plier wrenches, lever-wrench pliers, and vise grips. Since they lock in place, they can also be used as a clamp. These pliers will do double duty and save room in your tool box.

Adjustable wrench
Much like the pliers doing double duty as a clamp, getting an adjustable wrench will save you space in your toolbox. The same wrench can be adjusted to different sizes so you won't need to buy different sized wrenches. This helps tighten nuts and bolts.

Tape Measure
Tape measures can be helpful for a variety of projects. If you need to measure a door frame to see if a couch will fit, the tape measure will help. It will also help you measure wood or other objects. A good size measure should be a ¾-inch wide and 16-foot long tape measure.

Level
Have you ever hung a picture and when you step away to look at your work, you see that it’s crooked? That’s why investing in a level is a great idea. A level will help with pictures, televisions, shelves, and anything else you’d want to be straight. You can either buy a metal level or a laser level.
