Helpful Hacks for Your Next Beach Day

Painful sunburns, stolen valuables, destroyed smartphones and sand stuck in uncomfortable places can ruin a blissful beach day. Avoid beach blunders with our helpful hacks and make your day at the seaside stress-free!

Remove stubborn sand with baby powder

Itchy sand stuck to your skin? Pack a bottle of baby powder in your beach bag and sprinkle it on your most sand-covered areas. The powder will absorb the moisture on your skin, so the sand will fall right off.

Hide valuables in sunscreen
Wash out an empty bottle of sunscreen and cut the top off carefully, leaving the cap intact. Stow your valuables inside, such as your cellphone, cash, credit cards, or keys, and place the top back on. This way, you can leave your camp to take a dip without worrying about theft.

Bag your phone
Nearly every major element at the beach can damage your phone--sand, water, and sun are all harmful to any device. Place your phone inside a plastic zip-lock bag and seal it shut to protect it (make sure you get the air out before making a seal). Your touch screen will still be fully functional inside the bag!

Turn the wheel
When you return to your car after a long, sweltering day on the beach, the last thing you want to grab is a scalding-hot steering wheel. When you park your car, turn your wheel around so the bottom soaks up most of the sun. You can also throw white sheets over your leather or vinyl car seats to prevent burning your skin when you sit down.

Make aloe ice cubes for sunburns
Soothe painful sunburns or dry, hot skin with this helpful hack. Fill an ice cube tray with aloe vera and freeze for about an hour. Apply to dry or sunburned skin after a day at the beach for cool relief!
