After Your Move
Today (Oct. 19) is federal election day! Recently moved to a new town or even a new province? Learn where and when to vote below.
Where to vote
Which poll you will visit today is entirely dependent on where you live. You can find your polling place on your
voter registration card -- which you should have updated already -- or by
visiting the Vote Information Service website.
If you have not already done so, you can
register or update your registration at your new polling place.
When to vote
While polls are open for twelve hours across the country, voting times are greatly staggered to ensure results come in fairly close to each other. You can find your polling hours below.
- Pacific Time: 7 a.m. — 7 p.m.
- Mountain Time: 7:30 a.m. — 7:30 p.m.
- Central Time: 8:30 a.m. — 8:30 p.m.
- Eastern Time: 9:30 a.m. — 9:30 p.m.
- Atlantic Time: 8:30 a.m. — 8:30 p.m.
- Newfoundland Time: 8:30 a.m. — 8:30 p.m.
What you'll needDue to a slight change in requirements, you will need to have the following identification to vote this year:
- One ID - only one form of identification is needed if it is your driver's licence, provincial or territorial ID or any other government card containing your name, photograph and current address
- Two IDs - passports, library cards, credit card statements or any of these acceptable IDs can be used together as long as one contains your current address
- Voter registration card - while not required, Elections Canada recommends you bring this card with you
Happy voting!
