Visit Another Home Without Stepping Out of Your Own

If you've never been to an open house, you wouldn't remember the Sunday mornings and afternoons you spent traveling from one neighbourhood to another, just to look at a prospective home you're not sure if you want to buy. Even after you leave an open house, often our memories become distorted and we begin to think certain parts of a house existed, even if it didn't. Or maybe a home that you visited had something worth remembering, but it still slipped your mind. But what if you were able to tour an open house countless times? What if you were able to mentally place your furniture in a home you are prepared to buy, without even visiting the house again? These days, emerging technologies can bring us to these possibilities -- without us even moving a muscle.

Virtual Reality

When we hear the words 'virtual reality,' we often think of games. However, this technology can offer us much more than just a leisure activity. Several real estate companies are now beginning to utilize virtual reality to create an open house experience for potential clients. This method of viewing open houses allows us to attend an open house at any time, anywhere (with internet access of course). With open houses available as a virtual reality experience, we are also able to revisit the home however many times we like, instead of the one-time exclusive Sunday visits we were once restricted to.

These real estate companies use virtual reality goggles pair with a phone to show clients homes. We could also purchase or ask a real estate company to send us a set of cardboard virtual reality goggles, and pair it with our own phones to view a home.

While many of us would never purchase a home without first physically experiencing it, rather than virtually, this technology is beneficial for many international investors who may want to buy a home overseas or miles away.

Here's a video talking a little bit more about the virtual reality open house experience. Would you be able to put on a pair of VR goggles and be able to decide whether or not you want to purchase a home before physically visiting it? Let us know in the comments!
