10 Housewarming Gift Ideas That They Will Love

May is the busiest month for moving, which also means it’s the most common month for housewarming parties. A housewarming party is a party usually held soon after moving into a new residence. It’s a fun way to invite your family and friends over to see your new place. Traditionally, people that attend the party bring gifts, although not required. It’s a polite gesture to bring a nice gift for your friend or family member. But what should you get them for their new house? Here are 10 ideas for housewarming gifts that they will love.

1. Gift Baskets

If you have a theme of gifts, gift baskets are a great way to put it all together. If you want to do a coffee theme, you can gather different types of coffee, mugs, sugar, and other coffee-related items. Then arrange them in a beautiful basket. Plus, the new house owners (or apartment leasers!) get to have a great basket that they can use in their house as well.

2. Cookbook
This is helpful for people that moved into their own place for the first time. A cookbook is helpful because it can help them learn to make delicious meals. You can even download a recipe book on our sister site, Movers.com.

3. Toilet paper cake
For baby showers, people make diaper cakes. Which are stacked diapers that are in a shape of a tiered cake. You can do the same for a housewarming gift. Just get rolls of toilet paper and layer them to look similar to cake. Just don’t try to eat it! It’s a great idea because you know that it will be used and it’s one less thing the homeowners have to buy right away.

4. Recipe jars
A recipe jar is essentially all the dry ingredients for a dish, layered in a jar. There are usually wet ingredients to add when they are ready to cook the dish. You can write the recipe on a label and attach it to the jar. This is a great idea because it helps the new house owners cook a delicious meal with little effort. After a long day of unpacking, they want to make a quick and easy meal. Recipe jars could include recipes for cookies, soups, hot chocolate, etc.

5. Customized Cutting board
Everyone uses cutting boards often, if not daily. Why not get them one with their names on it? They will be reminded of you every time they use your thoughtful gift.

6. Key holder
Your friend or family member is going to need a place to put their new keys. You could get them a unique key holder. You can get one that’s customized or one with a fun design. There are plenty of great options online, so you have a lot to choose from.

7. Personalized print
Most new houses or apartments can be bare on the walls. Websites like Etsy or Zazzle allow you to make custom pictures. You can make a picture with their new address and the date they moved in. It will brighten up their new house and remind them about first moving in.

8. Pet treats
Are they moving in with pet? To include the cat or dog, you could buy gourmet pet treats. You can even make the treats! Everyone should be included in the housewarming celebration, even those with four paws.

9. Succulents
These plants are very easy to take care. So, even if they don’t have a green thumb, they will be able to take care of succulents. They need to be watered every one to two weeks, depending on how dry it is. Find one with a unique container and it’ll bring some color to their new house.

10. Waterproof speaker
After a long day of unpacking, a nice and relaxing shower is exactly what a new home owner needs. You can make it even more enjoyable for them by buying them a waterproof speaker so they can jam out while they get clean.

Having a housewarming party is a great way to relax when moving into a new place. It’s also a great time to put a little piece of you into their new house. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on a gift for your friend or family member. They will just be excited that you came to celebrate their new home with them. Don’t stress about the gifts and we hope this guide will help you when you need to find one.
