Easy Ways to Make Your Home Smell Nice

When you’ve lived in your house for a while, you may become “nose blind” to your home. Your home may not smell bad to you (or smell bad at all) but there is something very gratifying when you walk into your home and get hit with a nice smell. If you have any children, and especially teenagers, their rooms usually don’t smell the best. Here are some easy ways to make your home smell amazing.

Simmer pot

This is a really easy air freshener that doesn’t take a whole lot of effort and will have your house smelling nice all day. The great thing with a simmer pot is that you can customize the scent anyway you like. You’ll need either a small pot or a slow cooker. Then you just need to place your ingredients, fill it with water half way, set your burner to low, and let it simmer all day. For the winter, you can use pine needles, cranberries, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. You can use lemon and mint for the summer time. Citrus fruits (like lemons and oranges) are great to use to make your house smell amazing. You can play around with different ingredients to get a different scents.

Check your garbage disposal
Your garbage disposal encounters a variety of food. It can start to smell bad because of all the food that goes down there. A great way to make your garbage disposal not only smell good but sharpen the blades as well is to make vinegar ice cubes. Get an ice cube tray and fill them with vinegar. Then get some orange pieces and put those in the vinegar. Put them in the freezer until the next day. Once they are frozen, throw the vinegar ice cubes down in your garbage disposal. The ice will sharpen the blades and the orange pieces will get rid of the smell.

Air vent attachments
Another easy way to make your home smell great is to clip a car deodorizer to a vent’s metal slats. While the air is blowing through, the scent will be carried throughout your house. You can put a different scent in each room, so every time you enter a room, it’ll smell different.

Carpet deodorizer
Baking soda is a great deodorizer. It will absorb most smells. You can make a carpet refresher that is cheap to make. You just need to mix one cup of baking soda with one tablespoon of ground cinnamon. Then sprinkle the mixture all over your carpet. Let it sit on the carpet for 30 to 60 minutes. Once the time is up, vacuum as usual. Your carpets will smell nice and clean.
