Tips for Moving out During Christmas



Christmas is the time for cheer and joy. The smell of warm cups of hot cocoa permeate the air, a florescent display of multi-coloured lights decorate the neighborhourhood, and gifts line the base of Christmas trees. It is a season of giving and merry that few traditions can match. Believe it or not, however, Christmas season is a popular time for homeowners to move. People starting to look for a genesis in a new house or apartment. This can undoubtedly throw a little bit of stress into the holiday spirit. Here are a few tips on making your first Christmas in your new home a memorable one in the best way possible. 


Christmas Moving Tips

  • Untangle all of the Christmas lights before you pack
  • Sort decorations and label them clearly
  • Have the decorations packed last so that they'll be the first to be unpacked
  • If you have any children, while unpacking have them decorate the Christmas tree so they can be distracted
  • Choose a Christmas Tree and have it be the first thing to move into your new home
  •  Label and box gifts under something common or boring so as to keep prying eyes away
  • Move any expensive or fragile items yourself not by the movers

Planning the Move

'Tis the season for snow. Lots and lots of snow. Moving in the midst of snowstorm is less than ideal. Make sure the weather is agreeable before you call the moving company. Might be a good idea to salt and shovel any pathways leading to the home so as to avoid any incidents as well. As stated before, Christmas season is a popular time for homeowners to move, so if you plan on hiring a moving company, make sure it's well advance to avoid any delays. Also, make sure you're packed up way before you're planning to move, don't want to get caught still packing the day of. If there any items in your home that you feel are not being used or are simply in disrepair, considering throwing those items away or giving to charity. No reason to clutter your new home with old items. 

It would be kind of strange if everyone you invited to Christmas dinner showed up at the shell of your old home. Give notice to friends and family of your new address so can receive all those wonderful Christmas cards. The same deal goes for all your utility companies. Give them plenty of notice that you'll be moving out of the old home. Sounds like a no-brainer, but has actually been a common mistake of new homeowners.
