Winter Weather Hacks

via PexelsWinter is a difficult time for everyone. The temperatures drop and the conditions outside become more dangerous. But you can make it a more manageable season with these helpful winter weather hacks. Stay aware of your surroundings, be careful on the ice and stay warm!

Spray non-stick cooking spray on your snow shovels

This will make the snow slide right off, making shoveling your sidewalks and driveway much easier and less time-consuming.

Use plastic bags to keep your socks dry
Sandwich bags are usually the most helpful, but other options include newspaper bags and plastic grocery bags.

Shorter, lukewarm showers will prevent your skin from getting too dry
Ifyou enjoy your steaming hot showers, you should use lotions and oils to keep your skin from getting dry and cracking.

Leave the oven door open after cooking a meal so you don't waste heat
After baking food in the oven, allow the heat to spread throughout the house instead of closing the oven door right away.

Turn your ceiling fan to the low, clockwise setting to push warm air downward
Hot air usually rises, so this will send the heat back down toward the floor, keeping your home warm.

Open window shades and blinds during the daytime to let natural light and heat into your home
Even when it's cold outside, direct sunlight can work wonders for indoor temperatures.

Park your car facing east to use the sun to melt windshield ice
This way, you won't have to blast the heat when you get into your car. If there is light snow on your roof or windshield, brush it off with a broom instead of a shovel so not to scratch your vehicle!

Keep kitty litter in your trunk just in case your car gets stuck in snow
Another good option for immediate traction is placing extra car mats underneath your tires.

Place wet boots and shoes on a tray of pebbles by your door to keep your floors dry
Wet, slippery floors are a safety hazard, especially if you have children. When they're done playing in the snow, have them put their shoes on the tray so the snow can melt down into the pebbles and collect at the bottom. No more slipping!
