Tips for Moving in Snowy Weather

It's snow season again! Will you be moving when the white stuff is on the ground? Plan in advance with these moving tips for relocating during snowy weather!

Watch weather reports

On the days leading up to your move, keep an eye on the local weather report so you're not surprised by potential snow. If things get to be too hazardous, prepare to cancel. Your move is not worth risking your life.

Clear away snow
Keep your movers safe by clearing snow from walkways, driveways and off of any vehicles. After shoveling, salt pathways and driveways to prevent slippage for people, cars and moving trucks.

Protect your floors
Movers will probably be dragging slush, salt and other debris into your home during the course of your move, so be sure to protect your floors in both homes by laying down plastic topped with cardboard. While the sheets will protect your floors, the cardboard will prevent slipping.

Dress properly
Stay warm and protected during your move by wearing weather appropriate clothing and dressing in layers. Remember, gloves keep your fingers warm and provide additional grip while moving.

Drive safely
Will you be driving your own vehicle or a large moving truck? Always drive cautiously during snowy weather. Keep a safe distance from other vehicles, stick to the speed limit and have an emergency kit available just in case.

Hire a moving company!
