Every time there's an election, those who dislike one of the candidates threaten to move to Canada/Mexico/Europe/another country. In this year's United States Presidential Election, it's no different. The candidate causing a possible mass exodus from the United States is none other than Donald Trump,
according to The Week.More than a year before the November 2016 election,
users on Twitter are expressing their plans to
move to Canada should The Donald become Commander in Chief.
The article reported that Luminoso, a digital analytics company, examined 4.5 million tweets that mentioned Donald Trump between August 7 and September 9 and found that nearly 200,000 tweets were from people who said they'd escape the U.S. if Trump wins the election.
Of those 200,000 tweets, Canada can "expect" approximately 25,000 new residents.
Mexico came in with the highest number of tweets (75,000), and Canada was third. The second position was listed as "general," which just means that people are threatening to move but didn't disclose their destinations just yet.
Other countries named:
- United Kingdom: 11,000 tweets
- Australia: 5,800 tweets
- France: 2,000 tweets
About 5,800 users said they'd move to Alaska... we have no comment for those people.
